VoIP and Broadband Services Provided in European Hotels

Guests staying at hotels now expect Internet access as standard. At the same time hotels are looking for new ways of generating revenue - and loyalty among business customers. While phone calls have always been a good way of generating profits for hotels, the availability of a reliable, high-speed Internet service is becoming an essential prerequisite for the modern-day traveller.
Microtel has recently supplied and installed DSL equipment to a major hotel chain in Paris and London. The individual rooms now have fixed broadband access, capable of 27Mbps. The solution provided is capable of running IPTV, which could generate additional revenue, making it a future-proof investment for the hotel chain. Microtel was initially approached to supply the DSLAM’s and CPE equipment only, but it was quickly recognised by InterTouch that Microtel with its decades of communications experience and personalised services could provide them with a turnkey solution encompassing installation and support.
The solution delivered was based on Zhones Bitstorm 4800 DSLAM hospitality package, which encompasses the main DSLAM unit together with all ADSL modems, modem fixing brackets, filters and Voice Splitters. Zhones hospitality packages deliver connectivity better, faster and easier than other solutions, cuts operational costs and boasts customer satisfaction. Another advantage is the use of existing telephone wiring and room sockets, eliminating the need to re-decorate the room. The result of this complete solution has been easier ordering processes, more efficient installation procedures, and a reduction in costs.

With these successful installations now complete, Microtel now expect other equipment orders and installations to be scheduled in the months ahead as other hotels in the group update and improve the quality of communications for their customers.
