Microtel Deliver Low Cost Student Broadband AccessMicrotel completes project to provide low cost student broadband access and voice servicein Lincolnshire area. Microtel have successfully installed the network that will provide low cost broadband access and individual phone lines into each student room at properties in Lincoln and Loughborough. Traditionally, it has been difficult for students to secure both utilities due to the temporary nature of rented accommodation. Microtel were closely involved with the project from the outset, and have delivered a truly innovative network. It encompasses deployment of Zhone (Incorp. Paradyne) DSLAM's both in local BT Exchanges (through unbundled local loop) and in the basements of the student accommodation. The Network, which has been provided for a major Telecoms Carrier, delivers the ability to provide Voice over ATM on initial installation with the capability to seamlessly upgrade to VoIP at a later stage. This capability was essential for a reliable interface into the carrier's core network as it is today - and as it may migrate to in the future”. The project uses Dataflex VINE 1104a and 1108a supporting VoATM via ADSL to deliver voice and Internet access in an integrated chassis with full remote configuration and management. As Sales Director John Larkin at Microtel Ltd. explains, “The Dataflex products offered the best solution. The Dataflex IAD was primarily chosen due to its flexibility. It delivers the ability to provide voice over ATM on initial installation with the capability to seamlessly upgrade to VoIP at a later stage.” John Larkin continues, “The units were extensively tested before deployment and worked well within the scope of this project. The Carrier has subsequently deployed additional units for other customers served by the network, including delivery of ISDN for SME's” Gautam Bathija, Managing Director of Dataflex adds “We are pleased to be working with Microtel to deliver this innovative solution. We support a wide range of communication protocols and interfaces while using the same core chassis, processor and management technology. This strategy is allowing us to fill a valuable niche for our customers, and we will continue to evolve our product line in order to continue our strong growth.” The modular ViNE 110x series is an “all-in one” voice and data unit for the SOHO or SME markets. It provides a standard ADSL interface with between 2 and 16 analogue ports capable of providing up to 16 derived voice circuits, together with firewall, router, UBS and Ethernet functions. All ViNE IADs supplied by Dataflex are pre-configured to a standard customer profile, while specific user requirements can be managed centrally during installation - or by the end user through restricted Web based access. Remote upgrade and management capabilities mean all VoDSL ViNE products offer a fully scaleable route to future IP centric softswitch architectures and services. |
