Microtel Deliver Fibre-quality Broadband to More Than 650 schools in the UK

Microtel deploys Actelis MetaLIGHT® platform to provide fibre-quality broadband over existing copper infrastructure to a consortium of 9 Local Educational Authorities.

Microtel has been contracted to supply, install and commission Actelis Networks'® MetaLIGHT® Ethernet-over-Copper platform to deliver high-speed broadband services to over 650 schools in the East of England.

The consortium of 9 Local Educational Authorities required delivery of high-speed Internet access ranging in speeds from 2Mb/s.

The supply of the SHDSL Network for the LEA's included the commissioning of the MetaLIGHT® platform in 59 BT Exchanges and provided connection to the schools through unbundled local loop.

Using the existing copper infrastructure, the new high-quality bandwidth service will allow the schools to receive cost-effective, scaleable, high-speed broadband connections. Students and teachers alike will have access to the very real advantages of online educational tools and high-speed information throughout each site.

John Larkin, Microtel Sales and Marketing Director, comments “Microtel is delighted to have been chosen to deliver broadband to schools, using the award-winning Actelis MetaLIGHT® product. The product was chosen following exhaustive evaluation of several different platforms. The chosen solution enables system integrators, service providers, and private network operators to use the existing copper infrastructure to provide long-reach voice, video and data services quickly and universally.”

Ronen Peleg, Actelis Networks Vice President of Sales for EMEA adds “By providing this platform for delivery of broadband services to schools we have created the first of what we hope to be many initiatives to deliver fibre-quality broadband to the UK education sector”. He continues, ”Actelis is pleased to be providing the universal, high-speed broadband access that students, teachers and local authorities are increasingly, and rightly, demanding. We look forward to working closely with Microtel in the future”.
