New trunk gateway provides easy migration path to VoIP communications

- versatile unit delivers legacy PABX interfacing, SIP/H323 connectivity and ISP free-call service -

The New TG5250 Trunk Gateway from Microtel offers a cost-effective way of interfacing VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) networks with PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) traditional PABX systems, as well as providing connectivity between systems based on the competing H323 and SIP VoIP standards.

The unit is specifically designed to allow small to medium sized multi-site organisations to enter the VoIP environment in a cost-effective way, as well as extending the life of traditional PABX systems by using E1 connectivity to offer migration to VoIP. The TG5250 has built-in IVR (Interactive Voice Response) and billing capabilities for both pre- and post-paid services, and so can help ISPs (Internet Service Providers) and telephony providers to offer value-added services.

ISPs are increasingly offering free VoIP calls within their own or other ISPs' networks, but normally charge for calls made via the gateway to external PSTN, mobile or international destinations. Typically, an ISP would require three gateways to achieve this: one for each network (PSTN, Mobile and International), with each attached to separate billing and management platforms.

The New TG5250 Trunk Gateway supports one, two or four-port T1/E1 trunks, handling up to 120 voice channels at any one time. These calls can be routed to any network through the 2 Mbit/s E1 PRI (primary rate ISDN) connections, thereby reducing equipment inventory and cost of implementation and support.

Since it complies with both ITU-T H.323 V3 and SIP RFC 2543/3261 VoIP standards, it also offers a simple way of providing interconnectivity between these two competing standards, particularly for users trying to implement large systems. The TG5250 allows users to link different systems and route calls between the two: something previously available only on a handful of very expensive proprietary systems.

The TG5250 Trunk Gateway also offers built-in call data records, web management and other functions to meet operational requirements.
