Access multiplexer delivers ISDN, LAN and serial data over single E1 In response to customer demand to optimise the use Wide Area Network resources, Microtel has introduced a new access unit, the E141, which will offer the benefit of combining the functions of a smart ISDN access switch together with a time-division multiplexer. The new unit presents four ISDN (BRI), 64 kbit/s serial data as well as IP Ethernet traffic simultaneously over a single E1 connection. It is equally suited to the delivery of combined services for telecom operators and within enterprise networks or simply providing point-to-point multi-service connectivity over 2 Mbit/s links between different sites. The standard E141 unit comes with one 2 Mbit/s G.703 interface, four basic rate ISDN interfaces, one universal N×64k interface and one Ethernet interface. The G.703 interface towards the backbone offers the flexibility of operating either as a primary rate ISDN interface, or as a channelised E1 connection or a combination of both. The unit is fully compliant with the Euro-ISDN standard (Q.931), and features full ISDN switching between all the ISDN ports to reduce network costs. It includes a facility for basic rate to primary rate ISDN aggregation and ISDN number alteration for further network savings. |
